Last year the 2018-19 Saint James Wrestling team, coached by Head Coach Mr. Johnson, Junior high/varsity coach Mr. Aukes, and Assistant Coaches Mr. Nelson and Mr. Wargula, finished with a record of 8-13. Individually, Sam Kulseth and Tallin Johnson continued their season to the state tournament with Sam placing Fifth!
This season’s practice has just begun, when asking Troy Parulski what he’s looking forward to this year he said, “Individually I’m looking forward to sections because last year left a bad taste in my mouth, this year I have a vengeance to make it to state. As a team, honestly I think it would be really nice to keep our full team and be able to win some tough duels, just be able to compete all year.” Troy finished with a record of 20-10 and as you can read is very determined for this next year.
Head Coach Mr. Johnson says individually he has high expectations for his group of seniors with them ending their high school careers with a bang. He hopes that some of them will place higher in sections than they did last year and hopefully even continue on to the state tournament. Coach Johnson also stated that he is excited for the 7th and 8th-grade middle school wrestlers this season. “We have a good group of middle schoolers. Some [of] who have been wrestling for many years and some who are just beginning. It will be fun to watch them as they progress through the season!” Our goal as a team, Coach Johnson said, “is to continue to improve each day in the practice room and when we get the opportunity to compete, wrestle as hard as we can for 6 minutes. Leave it all on the mat.” Good luck to the Saints this year on their season!
